Celsius: One of my characters from my high school comics, Celsius had powers of heat and cold, as the name implies. Somewhere around the time I went to college, I had this idea about his powers going out of control and updated his look, as you see here.
Darkwolf: Came up with this fella in 1997, while watching wrestling. If you remember wrestling from that time, you can guess exactly what I was watching when. I've tried to smooth that out in later revisions, but it's still there a bit.
Hellfighter: Because I was such a big fan of Iron Man as a kid, a lot of my high school superhero universe is full of people with powered armor. Hellfighter is another example of this, though every time I draw him, I tend towards making him more intricate.
Winterkill: One of the first of my superheroes to get their own comic in my high school days, and the first from Canada (based on the logic that canada is cold, therefore the guy with cold powers was Canadian) It's always fun to explore ice effects with him when the time comes 'round to redesign him.
Skystrike: More folks with armor. Skystrike was initially created around 1996-97, I want to say. I haven't done too much with this design in the subsequent years, but I see some potential in it.
Skybolt: Another of my superheroes from my high school years, Skybolt is actually the SECOND version, as in the continuity, another hero called Vanguard took over the Skybolt identity, because every superhero universe needs a guy with a cape who flies, is strong, and has an S on his chest.
MX: This nuclear powered robot was initially dreamt up in 1985, but there have been a lot of revisions of him in the years since. Curiously enough, MX was a running plot point in my high school superhero comics, though he only appeared in flashback. Funny, that.
Mauler: Sometimes, you just want to draw big strong guys hitting things. Mauler was conceived to scratch that particular itch and look really metal and ominous.
Nocturne: Nocturne, in addition to being another in a fairly endless series of big-haired vaguely vampire femmes fatale that I dreamt up also played a role in my high school comics as one of the rulers of a secret society of magicians.
Shockwave: Another of my comic heroes, Shockwave was one of those characters I often think about revisiting. . .right before I remember that they're damn hard to draw from certain angles and have the final product come out right.
Overlord: Another design from my high school comics. There are a lot of bad guys from my superhero stories that wore armor like this. They didn't really have a function beyond "looks cool and menacing," but they did that bit rather well.
Estrago: One can't have a superhero universe without doing at least one super-strong woman. There are several that I came up with, but Estrago was an attempt to push that concept as far as I could take it.
Stiletto: One of my older characters, and, despite all appearances, not a ninja, Stiletto was meant to be an expert with all bladed weapons, and when the time came to re-design him, I decided this equated to "has a lot of knives."
Tasogare: An old design from the mid-90s I decided to rework. I don't know if the whole thing holds together that well, but when you're drawing ninja-like characters, if you don't do one where they're lurking on neon rooftops, I feel like you're missing an opportunity.
Fantoma: This design dates back from 1995, or so when I had a moment of clarity and started experimenting with less detail-intensive characters. Naturally, in every subsequent design, the detail came back in, because if there's one thing I love, it's making work for myself. That said, this was fun to revisit and add in all the Art Deco stuff in the background.
Canavar: Another 1997-era character with a gimmick (the opening lower part of the mask) I couldn't quite figure out how to do at the time without drawing the whole thing over twice, and I couldn't quite be bothered at the time. But recently I found a way to swap out alternate version without having to do the whole thing, and it felt like it was time to give it a go.
CanavarUnmasked: And here's Version 2. To make it seem a BIT less like a cheat, I did do separate backgrounds for the different pictures.
Alakdan: This one is a design from 1996, and I changed virtually everything about it from the original. The character's original name was "desert scorpion" and so worked backwards from there, which gave me a chance to work with weathered metals and the like.
Andromalius: Another design from the mid 2000s, Andromalius sees me revisiting my "dudes in armor" motif, but adding in effects I couldn't really do justice to without working digitally before this. I quite like how this one worked out.
